Sandcastle Water Park in Blackpool is an indoor waterpark for all the family. Despite having some fantastic outdoor spaces and lots of sea to swim in, this park is a must-see whenever you’re staying here.
Located down the Promenade opposite the Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Sandcastle Water Park is open during the tourist season. It’s the ideal location for people of all ages when the weather outside isn’t great, when it’s raining or the wind is blowing. Step inside into the tropical climate and you could almost forget you were in England!
The park itself has a range of water slides and attractions to keep you and your family happy all day long. The list includes: Aztec Falls, Caribbean Storm Treehouse, Duelling Dragons, Fort Riptide, HMS Thundersplash, Master Blaster, Montazooma, Shimmering Shallows, Sidewinder, Thunderfalls Waterslide, Treetops Water Chutes, Treetops Trading Post, Typhoon Lagoon and Ushi-Cushi River Creek.
There are also snack bars, arcades, a swim shop and plenty more.
Sandcastle Water Park was opened in 1986 on the site of what was South Shore Open Air Baths. It was designed to be the UK’s largest water park and still retains that title as well as lots of awards and a couple of world records. It is owned and operated by Blackpool Council.
Like all attractions in our little town, the water park receives constant investment and enjoys regular updates and innovations. The latest was in 2012, when the Aztec part of the park was opened and Aztec Falls and Montazooma were opened.
Currently, the part holds two world records. The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson awarded in 2013 and the Longest Distance Spent on a Water Slide, awarded in 2008.
The park has also won numerous tourist awards for customer service, accessibility and for being one of the top attractions in the country.
If you find yourself in Blackpool during the season, it’s well worth visiting Sandcastle Water Park. Whether you have children or not, it’s a great way to spend a day and it’s a lot of fun for not a lot of money. We recommend it!
